Fiona Brownlee

Screen Name: Fiona Brownlee
Country: United Kingdom
City: Edinburgh
With whom or what do you wage your biggest battle?: My children. Getting them to go to sleep closely followed by my husband regarding who controls the heating / air con in the car.
What has been your biggest victory to date?: Still haven't won the sleep battle but have worked out we have dual heat control in the new car which has possibly saved our marriage.
What is your perfect night in/out?: Definitely in. Definitely with the kids but with the addition of several other families, singstar / Wii Just Dance and free flowing champagne.
What piece of advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?: You don't know it all so don't pretend you do.
What piece of advice did you receive in your 20s that you regret not following?: Spread your wings. I regret not travelling around the world until my late 20s. A fear of life without hot showers and a hair drier held me back.

BIO

Fiona Brownlee combines a globe trotting career as a Book Publisher with bringing up three children one of whom was recently diagnosed as deaf. Although she is becoming quite adept at plate spinning there are times when something inevitably comes crashing to the ground. Born in Derbyshire, England to Scottish parents she studied in Bristol then moved to London where she began her publishing career. When she got engaged in 1995 her fiance didn't want move to London and she didn't want to move back to Derbyshire so they gave up their jobs and spent a year travelling around the world before relocating to Edinburgh where they knew no one and were forced to host parties in order to make friends. Had she known that having children was actually one of the easiest ways to meet new people she would have done so earlier but it was 2002 before her first child was born and 2005 before she had her second and moved to a grown up house in a suburb by the sea populated by families and dogs. She found out she was pregnant with baby number three after returning from a business trip to Guadalajara. He was born in July 2011 diagnosed deaf at 9 weeks and fitted with hearing aids by 12. She hopes he can now hear her chat but if not he seems very amused by her facial expressions and at least he can't hear her shouting at the other two.
